Sustainable Spotlight - Hej Hej

Hej Hej is a stunningly gorgeous, ethical womenswear brand, run by two New Zealand women, Kiki Judd and Alice Isles. It can be hard to find sustainable clothing that doesn’t look like you knitted it together yourself out of seaweed. That’s why I love this brand. It caters to consumers that don’t want to compromise ethics for style. Hej Hej peices are chic, modern yet classic, great quality and won’t break the bank. I would wear every piece on their website but as my budget won’t stretch quite that far, I settled on this pair of sunshine yellow linen pants, perfectly named; Fancy Pants.

In terms of the rest of my outfit.

My shirt is thrifted and is one of my favourites, I love the oversized, boxy fit combined with the soft drape of the fabric. I call it my Bob Ross shirt, because I can totally see that beautiful soul sweeping his brush effortlessly over a canvas, creating clouds out of thin air. It makes me feel like I could be so miraculously creative too.

My necklace is a vintage gold Aries ram.

My shoes are old from Betts. They killed my feet with blisters at first but good things take time and they are now comfy as heck.

My keepcup is from Mr and Mrs Jones, and it comes with me everywhere including this trip to Florence, an adorable cafe in Brisbane.

This beauties, are 100% linen, with real shell buttons! You can’t get much fancier than that.

The best part is, they are on sale right now! Don’t walk, run!

Sizing wise, they are true to size and linen has a tendency to stretch, I am between an Australian 6 and an Australian 8, I went for the size 6 and they fit well but could use some stretching out after a bagel or two.

Hej Hej’s garments are manufactured in China, following an ethical code of conduct that ensures fair and safe working conditions for suppliers. Kiki Judd, who is based in Shanghai, ensures these standards are being upheld.

It is awesome to see two women following their passion and creating such gorgeous pieces while remaining conscious of their impact on the planet and it’s people, that’s why Hej Hej is getting this weeks Sustainable Spotlight. I for one, can’t wait to build my Hej Hej collection.

Here’s what I’ve got my eye on at the moment from the brand. The clever garment names are really the cherry on top…
